His connection to the Ridgewood Public Library is special, and it helped him and his young family both professionally and personally.rn“When we moved here,” Sun recalls, “my wife handled most of our communication, such as opening a bank account or speaking to my daughter’s teacher because of my limited English skills.” Unsatisfied with ESL classes he was taking elsewhere, he learned about RPL’s ESL program and signed up.rn“As an ESL student, I received one-on-one instruction from my tutor. I have not only improved my English, but I’ve also received advice for tuning up my resume as I search for a full-time job.”rnNot long ago, Sun returned to Shanghai for a design project and communicated well with a French designer in English. How big a deal was that? “It was unimaginable in the past,” Sun says.
