YWCA Offers Fitness for Active Older Adults and Seniors

YWCA Bergen County offers fitness classes for active older adults as part of its 360 Membership. Classes are taught by Certified Fitness Instructors who provide a friendly and supportive environment to help improve members’ health and well-being. Unlimited land and water group fitness classes for seniors include Aqua Combo, Chair Yoga, Gentle Yoga, and Safe & Fit.

Aqua Combo (Beginner – Advanced) burns calories with 30 to 40 minutes of water aerobics and 15 to 20 minutes of aquatoning to increase strength and muscle tone, improve circulation and flexibility. Chair Yoga adapts yoga positions through creative use of folding chairs, walls and yoga props. All poses and stretches are done standing and/or sitting, supported by the chair. This gentle class is suitable for all levels and ages. Gentle Yoga is a beginner-friendly yoga for novice yoga participants and/or seniors. This class includes very specific alignment instruction which allows the students to perform the poses safely and with maximum benefits, making the practice therapeutic. Safe and Fit is an exhilarating workout that includes heart-healthy aerobics, strength training, balance and flexibility training. All exercises are designed for active seniors and beginning and/or rehabilitating exercisers.
